Infant Acid Reflux - Heartburn In Child
![]() By Leeanne Utiger Acid reflux and Heartburn can be a condition in many infants, a child, in toddlers and in newborn babies. Acid reflux and heartburn are not conditions that only adults are susceptible to. Infants are very susceptible to acid reflux and heartburn. This article will give you some brief detail relating to acid reflux and heartburn symptoms for infants, including a child, a toddler and a newborn baby. Heartburn and acid reflux in all infants, regardless of their age, can be very painful and most uncomfortable. Acid reflux and heartburn can cause sleepless nights in many infants of these ages. It is wise to learn what the symptoms are for acid reflux and heartburn, so you can possibly come to a conclusion as to what is affecting your infants, child, or toddler or newborn baby. If you think you recognize any symptoms of heartburn or acid reflux in your infants, be them a child, toddler or newborn, you can then find a remedy to alleviate their acid reflux or heartburn symptoms to make things easier and less painful for your infants. Infant and Child Heartburn Heartburn can affect an infant child as I have mentioned above. A child will experience signs of pain. This pain is generally located in the chest area, normally situated behind the breastbone. This pain can spread upwards, carrying with it a sour or acid like taste. Your child will be able to tell you if he or she has a funny or horrible taste in his or her mouth. If you find your child is belching more than normal, this could also indicate a condition of heartburn. Heartburn in your child needs to be alleviated and hopefully cured as soon as possible. Watch your childs diet and control the fatty foods they eat. Moderating or eliminating such foods will alleviate and prevent heartburn from occurring in your child. Acid reflux in a Toddler Toddlers can often experience acid reflux due to a build up of gas or acid. This will more than likely occur after your toddler has had a drink or a feed. Like a newborn baby, a toddler will have to at times be winded'. This can be achieved by simply rubbing your toddlers back to help digestion. If a toddler has acid reflux, like a child, your toddler can be in extreme pain and be very uncomfortable. Acid reflux can be a problem for many toddlers due to their stomach not yet being mature enough to function adequately.
Acid Reflux in a Newborn Baby Yes - even newborn babies are susceptible to acid reflux. In fact newborn babies are more likely to experience acid reflux than an older child. A high percentage of newborn babies are born with an acid reflux problem initially. If you are a breastfeeding mother, you can also be adding to an already existing acid reflux problem, or can create acid reflux in your newborn. When you breastfeed, you are giving your baby the nutrients and sources the food that you eat contain. So if you as a mother have a high fat intake diet, the chances are you will cause acid reflux in your newborn baby. You will be ultimately passing any acids through your milk to your newborn. As with a toddler, a newborn babies stomach is not yet adequately functioning, so this also makes a newborn more susceptible to acid reflux. Your newborn should grow out of having problems with acid reflux by their first birthday. When you feed your newborn baby, regardless of whether you are breastfeeding or not, make sure you sit your newborn up right and help them relieve themselves of any wind or acid build up. Rub your newborns back as you would for a toddler. Never lay your newborn flat on his or her back immediately after feeding. This can also cause acid reflux in your newborn. If you find your child or toddler or even your newborn seems to be extremely uncomfortable and nothing you do seems to relieve and acid reflux, I suggest you visit your local or family doctor immediately for your young one to be assessed and possibly have something prescribed to give further relief.
