Then I will give you some information about the signs to recognize you are experiencing heartburn in your pregnancy, and lastly in the third section I will give go briefly into how to gain some form of relief from any heartburn you may suffer while you are pregnant. Pregnancy and Heartburn As I have mentioned earlier in the article, pregnant women can suffer from heartburn. This can be very uncomfortable and irritating. As if a woman does not have enough to deal with in being pregnant. Add heartburn to hormone changes and body changes, you could have a very unhappy mother to be on your hands. Heartburn in women who are pregnant occurs because the hormone (progesterone) that pregnancy produces, causes the valve between the stomach and the esophagus to loosen up. This will in turn allow acid to pass back up out of the stomach. Unfortunately heartburn becomes another condition you will have to learn to find a form of relief for. Heartburn in pregnancy generally occurs within the first trimester of a pregnancy, but is not uncommon to occur in a pregnant woman for the entire pregnancy. Heartburn can range from being very mild to very severe. Therefore it is imperative that as a pregnant woman you take care or both yourself and your unborn baby. If you do suffer from heartburn while you are pregnant and cannot find a relief for it, I suggest you visit your caregiver (doctor, midwife or gynaecologist). Signs of Heartburn in a Pregnancy There are a few signs you can learn to recognize that relate to heartburn. The signs of heartburn often will not be any different to the signs other people who are not pregnant will have when they have heartburn. A pregnant woman who suffers from heartburn can easily recognize one of the signs of heartburn, as can all other people who suffer from heartburn. A sharp, often pressured feeling chest pain will occur. This chest pain is most felt behind the breastbone, and can move around into your back region. You may also recognize signs of heartburn through experiencing further pain in either your jaw, or down into your arms. If you find you end up with a sour or acid like taste in your throat or in your mouth, this is a sign of heartburn. Other signs of heartburn may include: nausea and loss of appetite. Bloating is also a good sign of possible heartburn. Relief from Heartburn for Pregnant Women If you are pregnant and are finding you are suffering from heartburn, you will be wanting to find a form of relief for this heartburn as soon as possible. While you are pregnant you will need to be as comfortable as possible. Both for the benefit of yourself, as well as the health of your unborn baby. There are a few natural remedies you can put into use that should give you some form of relief from any heartburn you are suffering from. You can eat some yoghurt or even drink a glass of milk. Drinking milk is good for you anyway, while you are pregnant, so this should become a daily habit. You can even seek relief from heartburn by simply mixing a teaspoon of honey into a glass of warm milk. This should also provide some relief from heartburn during a pregnancy. It is safe to use medications such as antacids, but these must only be used in moderation. Make sure however, if you choose to use antacids for relief of heartburn while you are pregnant, that you read the instructions very carefully, or even speak to your medical practitioner before you use them. Another way to get relief from future heartburn, is to simply prevent it. Prevention is a key factor to not experiencing it again during your pregnancy. Eat smaller meals each time you feel hungry and refrain from lying down as soon as you have eaten. Both of these simple things can give relief to possible heartburn.
